WOLLIE AND TAKA’SNIMBLE BACKCOUNTRY SLAYER

The HPS is an all-new addition to the Salomon range this season and is the brainchild of backcountry legends Taka Nakai and Wollie Nyvelt. Utilising a traditional freeride inspired tapered directional shape, this outstanding board is aimed at riders who are looking for a high-performance ride that delivers a nimble yet powerful ride both in the pow and out on the mountain. The HPS comes into its element though, when you’re charging around and need a board that does what you want when you want, making it the perfect choice for anyone who’s heading out to those resorts where hopefully you’ll spend most of your time waist deep.

Rider Style
Experienced backcountry riders who are looking for a quick reacting board that is equally at home in the pow as it is blasting around the mountain.

Shape Overview
Built around a state of the art tapered directional shape the HPS delivers the perfect balance of float and control. Its advanced nose profile features both extended nose kick and extended contact points. These channel snow down and under the board ensuring that the HPS is effortless to ride in the pow. The tapered tail helps the back end of the board sink while delivering a predictable feel in the turn. That predictability is then further enhanced with the addition of a traditional radial sidecut.

Profile
As the HPS is all about freeriding, Salomon fit it with their HPS exclusive Powder Camber. This specialist profile adds a longer extended rocker zone from the nose kick all the way back to the front binding, which works in perfect harmony with the extended nose profile to deliver unrivalled float at the front of the board. This rocker zone then blends into a set-back camber profile which puts all the power to the back end of the board, ensuring that no matter how hard you ride, you know that you'll be able to drive the board through the turn, both off and on the piste,

Construction
Internally the HPS is jam-packed with some of the most up to date construction available, so it’s no surprise as to why it rides so well. Heading this up is the Popster Ghost Green Core. This combination of sustainable woods combined with lightweight paulownia creates the perfect balance of pop and feel. That pop is perfectly matched to the board thanks to Salomon’s unique Popster core profiling which manipulates core thickness through the length, to control how and where the board flexes. This is all then wrapped with Salomon’s ABC Wrapper structural layers. These utilise structural bamboo veneers to reduce the amount of the BA MD fibreglass and resin content in each board by up to 40%. Also, the HPS’s standard abs sidewalls are replaced by bamboo with cork inserts for additional dampening. This environmentally sound construction not only cuts back on petrochemical products used in the board, but it also steps up pop and power.

Base
To finish off the HPS’s high-end construction, Salomon utilises their robust and fast sintered EG base with fine stone finish. This Galium infused Electra base is both super tough and super-fast, ensuring that this will be one of the fastest boards on the mountain.
