FREESTYLE CONTROL WITH THE HEART OF A BIG MOUNTAIN CHARGER

After winning three consecutive Good Wood awards, it’s safe to say the Hel has firmly established itself as one of the best high-performance freeride inspired boards on the market. Designed and developed by Helen Schettini, the Hel is aimed at strong intermediate through to expert riders who are looking for a board that can take on the whole mountain. Built around an innovative directional twin chassis, it features Yes’s acclaimed UnderBite edge profile. This delivers stunning performance on piste ensuring that no matter how hard you push, the Hel is always going to provide. So, if you’re after a high performing board that’s going to take your riding to the very highest level, then the Hel really could be the board for you.

Rider Style
Strong intermediate through to Expert riders who are looking for a performance freeride inspired board.

Shape Overview
The Hel utilises an all-terrain focussed Directional Twin shape. This gives the board a more versatile ride compared to the usual fully directional shape generally found on this type of board. Not only does this make it a little bit more freestyle friendly it also makes it a little less full on. Now one of the secrets to the Hel’s stunning performance is the addition of the acclaimed UnderBite edge profile. UnderBite edges re-distribute a rider’sweight in such a way that it enhances ease of turning and edge hold. Creating divots inward at the binding area reduces and disrupts the surface area of the edge that has contact with the snow while the board is turning. This increases the edge pressure by distributing your weight/energy into the areas where it’s needed - from the binding out and through the centre of the board where the carving arc is taking place. This segmentation of the sidecut into three key zones focuses your body weight into areas that initiate, hold and release turns.

Profile
To ensure that the Hel delivers that perfect balance of freeride performance and all-terrain versatility, YES utilise their directional Cam Rock profile. This adds an extended nose rocker while setting back the camber towards the tail, giving the board more float in the pow thanks to the extra lift at the front while still delivering a fully locked on powerful ride on the piste.

Construction
As you would expect for such a performance-focused board, the Hel doesn’t hold back when it comes to construction. Heading up its high-quality build is the advanced wood core. This combines durable poplar and lightweight paulownia with bamboo stringers running through the centre. Delivering a poppy and powerful flex through the length of the board while reducing overall weight. To this Yes then create structural layers formed from a torsionally responsive tri-ax weave glass fibre. This stiffens up the torsional flex of the board ensuring that no matter how hard you push, you can be confident that the Hel can take it all in its stride.

Base
As the Hel is all about performance, Yes step up the base material to a True Sintered material. True Sintered is harder and more expensive than extruded, and it can be faster for those that ride aggressively fast.
